Healthy individuals should still watch out for heart disease

Researchers at the Wake Forest Universtiy Baptist Medical Center has conducted a study wherein the results indicated that the location of fat in a person is important in assessing the risk of heart disease.

The researchers used cardiac and CT scans to measure fat deposits in their participant's body. The researchers found that the amount of fat around a person's organs and in between their muscles had a direct relation to the amount of calcified, hard plaque they have. Calcified plaque has been associated with the presence of less stable fatty deposits in blood vessels which could lead to heart attack and stroke.

So even if a person is considered "healthy" the fact that they have more fat in their organs specially the heart, could lead to heart disease.

The researchers' findings will be published in the September issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
